Mapua – KIT dual degree student shining at robotics competitions in Korea

Alyssa Alipis, fourth year Mechanical Engineering in Mapúa University and Mechanical System Engineering student in Kumoh National Institute of Technology (KIT) under dual-degree program, has been reaping awards with her senior undergraduate capstone project and supervised laboratory projects in Korea.
Under the guidance of Dr. Baeksuk Chu, Alyssa and three of her lab-mates under the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory developed a robot named "Intelligent - Terrain Overcoming Robot (I-TOR)", a disaster response robot capable of manual and autonomous control. The said project has received awards and distinctions from the following events and competitions: (1) Gold Award (2nd place) at 2018 Changwon Intelligent Robot Contest in Changwon, South Korea; (2) Seoul National University of Science and Technology President’s Award (4th place) at SeoulTech Intelligent Creative Robot Competition in KINTEX, Goyang, South Korea; (3) Best Award at 2018 KSME Conference and Capstone Competition; (4) Best Award at Mechatronics Concert in Kumoh National Institute of Technology, Gumi, South Korea; and (5) Special Award at Engineering Fair in Kumoh National Institute of Technology, Gumi, South Korea.
Alyssa’s team’s capstone design project entitled "Development of Auto-Tilting System to Improve Driving Stability" also received the silver award at an engineering fair in KIT.
